Doha:Palestinian organizations focused on prisoners' affairs have confirmed that more than 90 Palestinian women are currently detained by Israeli occupation authorities. These women are reportedly subjected to systematic crimes and violations, including the denial of necessary medical treatment and basic hygiene supplies within Israeli prisons and interrogation centers.
According to Qatar News Agency, the organizations issued a statement on Monday detailing that female detainees suffer from physical and psychological torture, intentional starvation, and medical negligence. The statement highlighted a widespread outbreak of scabies among the detainees, which the prison administration allegedly denies and refuses to address medically.
The organizations reported that over 810 Palestinian women have been arrested since October 7, 2023, across the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the 1948 occupied territories. The most recent arrest involved a young woman in Hebron. However, there are no definitive statistics available regarding the number of women detained from the Gaza Strip.
The statement also revealed that among the detained women, more than 90 are still held in Israeli custody, including two minors and 22 women under administrative detention without charge or trial. Several detainees are reportedly suffering from critical medical conditions, including cancer.
The organizations stressed that the systematic targeting of Palestinian women is a part of a broader attack on Palestinian society. They emphasized the importance of addressing the fundamental rights of women to freedom, safety, and dignity, while calling for accountability for the perpetrators of these violations.
The statement concluded with a call for the international human rights framework to enact measures to enforce accountability, prosecute those responsible for war crimes, and provide immediate protection for female Palestinian prisoners, alongside efforts to dismantle oppressive policies of torture and arbitrary detention.
