Russian Scientists Discover New Mechanisms Behind Psoriasis

Moscow:Researchers at Russia's Sechenov University have identified mechanisms involved in psoriasis, potentially paving the way for personalized treatments.

According to Qatar News Agency, the researchers discovered that unique T-cell receptor sequences in affected skin were tens to hundreds of times more numerous than in healthy tissue. This suggests an immune response to skin proteins that have yet to be identified.

A separate study highlighted that regulatory T cells accounted for 2.84 percent of cells in psoriasis patients, compared with 4.02 percent in healthy individuals. Researchers indicated that this shortage may contribute to inflammation and plaque formation.

These findings could play a significant role in assessing treatments at the molecular level and support the development of new therapies targeting immune cells, including cell-based treatments using patients' own regulatory cells.
