Riyadh: Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, has held talks in Riyadh with Palestinian Vice-President Hussein Al Sheikh, focusing on the latest developments in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
According to Qatar News Agency, the discussions addressed the worsening humanitarian conditions facing Gaza's population, as well as Israeli escalation in the West Bank and its continued violations of the ceasefire.
Both sides stressed the importance of allowing humanitarian aid to enter Gaza without obstacles. They also called for the release of funds belonging to the Palestinian Authority, the protection of the Palestinian banking system, and adherence to a comprehensive peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump.
The talks also reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's support for a reform program launched by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, the statement said. Saudi and Palestinian officials underlined the need to link the Gaza Strip with the West Bank and to continue working with international partners to secure what they described as the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Al Sheikh is currently on an official visit to the Saudi capital.
