Doha: The 2nd edition of the Autonomous e-Mobility Forum (AEMOB) kicked off Monday at the Qatar National Convention Centre, hosted by the Ministry of Transport and organized by Just us and Otto. In his inaugural remarks, HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Ibrahim Al Maadheed emphasized the transformative role of the transport sector, evolving into a strategic pillar that boosts economic competitiveness and enhances quality of life.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al Maadheed underscored the significance of electric mobility and automated driving systems in shaping the future of transportation. He highlighted the necessity for a holistic approach and collaboration among governments, the private sector, and think tanks to navigate challenges like energy, digital infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, and safety. The government's role, he noted, extends beyond regulation to fostering an investment-friendly environment, unlocking opportunities for private sector innovation and technology adoption.
Over recent years, Qatar has developed advanced infrastructure supporting its national development goals, including modern road networks, subway and transit fleets, ports, airports, and logistics hubs. Al Maadheed stated that, aligning with the Third National Development Strategy, the focus is shifting to maximizing infrastructure utilization through transportation electrification, digital infrastructure development, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). The forum serves as a platform for sharing expertise and forming strategic partnerships to shape transportation's future.
Al Maadheed emphasized that the future of the sector will be defined by advanced ITS, leveraging technology and data for societal benefits. Eng. Ahmad Ali Al Ansari, Chairman of the AEMOB Forum Executive Committee, remarked on the sector's significant evolution since the internal combustion engine, with electric vehicles and automated driving systems now a present reality. He stressed the urgency of this evolution to protect communities, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance road safety by exploring alternative energy sources.
Al Ansari added that the forum focuses on cutting-edge technologies in electric transportation and AI-powered ADS, assessing infrastructure readiness and regulatory frameworks to turn innovation into practical solutions. Alongside the forum, the Undersecretary inaugurated the exhibition, showcasing innovations in electric and automated vehicles.
The 2026 forum gathers over 40 regional and international speakers from various sectors to discuss key transportation issues. It features more than 50 speeches and panel discussions across 10 tracks, covering topics like automated mobility, technology, policy, regulation, sustainability, infrastructure, research, and deployment. The event also engages the public, creating opportunities for entrepreneurs, startups, students, and young professionals to shape mobility's future. Supported by over 20 sponsors and partners, its inaugural edition was held from April 30 to May 2, 2024.
