Doha: Qatar's Shura Council has called for a broader social, cultural, and educational role for sports clubs, submitting a proposal aimed at strengthening their contribution to national identity and youth development. During a sitting chaired by HE the Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, members discussed an internal committee report on enhancing the social and cultural role of sports clubs and their activities.
According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting commenced with the council congratulating HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on Eid Al-Adha, expressing wishes for continued stability and prosperity for Qatar and the broader Arab and Islamic nations. Following this, HE the Secretary-General Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud read out the order paper before the legislature approved the minutes of its previous sitting.
HE Al Ghanim emphasized Qatar's prioritization of human development, reinforcing national identity, and deepening societal values through support for sports, culture, and youth sectors. He highlighted the achievements in sports, stressing the need to enhance sports clubs' roles in developing young people and societal values, aligning with Qatar National Vision 2030 objectives.
HE Chairman of the Education, Culture, Sport and Information Committee Khalid bin Ahmed Al Obaidan explained the committee's engagement with various stakeholders to bolster the social and cultural contributions of sports clubs. The committee's report focused on establishing a clear institutional framework to enhance these clubs' roles, supporting youth and volunteer initiatives, and fostering community partnerships.
Lawmakers underscored the importance of sports clubs as platforms for promoting awareness and values among emerging generations. They proposed a framework to strengthen these clubs' roles, including legislative developments, sustainable plans for youth and persons with disabilities, national leadership workforce development, and collaboration with educational and cultural institutions.
The proposal included initiatives for self-development, skill-honing, cultural and religious events, and societal programs. It also called for hiring national expertise, fostering partnerships, enhancing club infrastructure, and launching a unified digital platform for marketing and evaluation.
Separately, the council approved amendments to real estate brokerage legislation, passed a revised bill on animal health, and extended discussions on proposed animal welfare legislation. Additionally, lawmakers debated reports from international engagements on economic development and inclusive parliaments for persons with disabilities.
