Shura Council Approves Draft Law on Combating Doping in Sports and Reviews Domestic Worker Recruitment

Doha: The Shura Council held its regular weekly meeting at the Tamim bin Hamad Hall on Monday, chaired by HE the Speaker Hassan bin Abdulla Al Ghanim. During the session, the Council approved a draft law on combating doping in sports and referred it to the esteemed government after reviewing the report from the Education, Culture, Sports, and Information Affairs Committee and discussing its details with their Excellencies the members.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Council also reviewed the esteemed government's statement regarding the Shura Council's proposals on reorganizing and monitoring domestic worker recruitment offices. The Council decided to refer this matter to the Social Affairs, Labor, and Housing Committee for further study and to report back on its findings. The Shura Council had previously discussed this topic and submitted a proposal to the esteemed government, which included the Council's views on the matter.

Moreover, the Council reviewed two reports on its participation in recent parliamentary events. These included the meeting of the Coalition of Women Parliamentarians from Arab Countries to Combat Violence against Women, held via videoconferencing in November 2024, and the 37th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), held in Cairo last February.

At the session's conclusion, HE Speaker Al Ghanim briefed the members on his participation in leading the Council's delegation to the 38th Conference of the AIPU, which concluded in Algeria under the theme "The Role of the AIPU in Light of Regional and International Changes." His Excellency explained that the conference discussed regional challenges, including the Palestinian cause and developments in the Gaza Strip and occupied Palestinian territories.

HE Al Ghanim noted that the conference issued a final statement praising Qatar's prominent role in supporting the Palestinian cause, particularly its efforts in providing humanitarian and relief aid to the Gaza Strip. The Union also welcomed Qatar's memorandum to the International Court of Justice concerning Israel's obligations regarding the presence and activities of the UN and other international organizations. This memorandum emphasizes supporting relief and humanitarian organizations and ensuring a decent living for the Palestinian people.
