Doha: HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim met with HE President of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament Rolando Gonzalez Patricio during the parliamentary forum held by the Shura Council in collaboration with the Inter-Parliamentary Union, as part of the 2nd World Summit for Social Development.
According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting focused on the parliamentary relations between the Shura Council and the parliaments of Latin American and Caribbean countries. Discussions centered around strengthening these relations to serve common interests and boost consultation and coordination in both regional and international parliamentary forums.
The meeting addressed several topics of common interest, including the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. Both parties emphasized the need for unified parliamentary stances to support efforts in stopping aggression and providing relief to the Palestinian people.
Furthermore, the meeting touched upon the voting mechanism for including emergency items on the agenda of the Inter-Parliamentary Union General Assembly. The importance of developing this mechanism to ensure fairness and transparency while enhancing the effectiveness of joint parliamentary work at regional and international levels was highlighted.
