Social Development Minister hails Interior Ministry’s open prisons programme

Osama bin Ahmed Khalaf Al Asfoor, Minister of Social Development, expressed his pride in the visions and political approach of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the efforts of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, which continue to bolster the leading model that Bahrain presents in various areas.

Commenting on the graduation of the first batch of the open prisons programme beneficiaries, the minister hailed the efforts of Interior Minister, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, and the ministry’s team, in adopting effective methods and procedures that adhere to human rights standards and values, in line with building the nation and enhancing its capabilities and gains.

He said the programme represented a major shift in the criminal justice system towards consolidating human rights in the Kingdom.

The minister stressed that this initiative, being the first of its kind in the Middle East, was a big step forward for human rights, reflecting its keenness on continuing to develop the justice and legal system to achieve further social security, family stability, and community partnership.
