Soldiers Among 60 Killed in Militant Attack in Nigeria

Borno state: At least 60 people, including five Nigerian soldiers, were killed in an armed assault by militants on a village in northeastern Nigeria, local authorities confirmed. The attack occurred late Friday in the village of Darul Jamal, Borno State, near the border with Cameroon. Officials said residents had only recently returned from displacement camps when the assailants struck.

According to Qatar News Agency, Borno and other northeastern states have endured more than a decade of violence at the hands of Boko Haram and allied armed groups, leaving tens of thousands dead and forcing millions from their homes both within Nigeria and across neighboring countries. Despite repeated military operations by the Nigerian army, supported by regional and international forces, militants continue to launch sporadic raids on rural communities and security outposts, particularly in border areas with Cameroon, Niger, and Chad.
