Study Suggests Sugarcane Extract May Boost Heart Health

Melbourne: A study from Monash University in Australia found that polyphenol-rich sugarcane extract may improve blood lipid levels, reducing triglycerides and VLDL, while also positively affecting gut bacteria.

According to Qatar News Agency, researchers emphasized that the early findings do not imply that the extract can replace cholesterol-lowering medications. They highlighted the necessity for further research to confirm the long-term benefits of sugarcane extract on heart health.

The study contributes to ongoing research on plant compounds, particularly polyphenols, and their potential role in regulating lipid metabolism and supporting cardiovascular health. The sugarcane extract used in these studies is not equivalent to white sugar or conventional sugarcane juice. Instead, it is a highly concentrated substance derived through complex biochemical processes from parts of the plant and its by-products, such as molasses. During this process, sugars are completely removed, leaving only the active plant compounds.
