Sudan Extends Adre Border Crossing with Chad for Humanitarian Aid

Khartoum: The Sudanese government has announced an extension of the opening of the Adre crossing on the border with Chad, allowing for the continued delivery of international humanitarian aid. This extension will be effective from January 1 until March 31, 2026, and is aimed at facilitating the operations of international aid organizations in the region.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that this decision aligns with the government's commitment to ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need. The Ministry also emphasized its intention to streamline humanitarian efforts and coordinate with relief organizations in accordance with international humanitarian law.

The decision to extend the opening of the border crossing follows severe incidents attributed to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which have affected areas such as El Fasher, Babanusa, and Heglig, leaving thousands of Sudanese people in distress. The Ministry expressed aspirations for support from neighboring and friendly countries, as well as humanitarian organizations, to provide the necessary aid to the affected Sudanese population.
