Syria, EU Explore Shift from Aid to Development in Key Sectors

Syria: Syria and the European Union discussed expanding cooperation in mine clearance, refugee return, and disaster management during high-level meetings in Damascus on Wednesday.

According to Qatar News Agency, Syrian Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed Al Saleh met with an EU delegation led by Director-General of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), Maciej Popowski. Talks focused on transitioning from emergency humanitarian aid to long-term development projects aimed at community recovery and stability.

In a separate meeting, Al Saleh held talks with Charge d'Affaires at the Norwegian Embassy in Damascus, Hilde Haraldstad, focusing on mine clearance and sustainable development initiatives aimed at facilitating the safe return of displaced Syrians.

The minister expressed appreciation for the support provided by international partners and stressed the importance of continued collaboration to advance reconstruction and development efforts in Syria.
