Tennis: Djokovic Through to US Open 3rd Round


New york: Tennis legend Novak Djokovic, the all-time record holder with 24 Grand Slam titles, advanced to the third round of the US Open after defeating American Zachary Svajda in four sets on Wednesday.



According to Qatar News Agency, world No. 7 Djokovic dropped the opening set 6-7 but came back strong to beat his qualifier opponent, ranked 145 in the world, in three straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, 6-1.



The 38-year-old, who has won the US Open four times, earned his 191st victory on hard courts at Grand Slam events, equaling the record previously held by Swiss great Roger Federer.



Djokovic will face the winner of the match between UK’s Cameron Norrie and Argentina’s Francisco Comesana in the next round.
