Tunis: Tunisian authorities announced the arrest of 66 irregular migrants in the northeast of the country.
According to Qatar News Agency, Tunisian News Agency reported, citing a security source, that the coast guard thwarted two irregular migration attempts off the coast of Kelibia, in the Nabeul Governorate. It added that the migrants were attempting to reach the Italian coast when their boat broke down at sea. Legal proceedings have been initiated against them.
Tunisia serves as a transit point for thousands of migrants and asylum seekers heading to Europe, primarily from sub-Saharan African countries, who attempt to depart from its coastline toward European shores.
