Seattle: Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in the United States witnessed a collision between a Japan Airlines plane and a parked Delta Air Lines plane while moving on the airport grounds.
According to Qatar News Agency, a company spokesperson was quoted as saying that the affected plane, a Boeing 737, was carrying 142 passengers, and was awaiting de-icing before taking off on its scheduled flight to Puerto Vallarta in Mexico.
The accident did not result in any injuries among passengers or crew, while airport authorities worked to remove the passengers from the plane and transfer them to another plane, he confirmed.
The airport administration indicated that the accident did not significantly affect operations, with some flights suspended for a short period after it occurred, explaining that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the accident.
The incident comes amid heightened scrutiny of aviation safety in the United States, following a series of recent air accidents, including a mid-air collision between a UH-60 Black Hawk military helicopter and an American Airlines passenger jet over the Potomac River in Washington, D.C., which killed 67 people. Meanwhile, a small medical plane in Philadelphia has recently crashed.
