UN Issues Urgent Appeal to End Human Suffering in Gaza Strip

Geneva: The United Nations on Monday issued an urgent appeal to governments worldwide to take action to end the human suffering in the Gaza Strip. During the opening of the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk stated: "Everyone in government needs to wake up to what is happening in Gaza. All those with influence must exert maximum pressure to put an end to this unbearable suffering."

According to Qatar News Agency, Turk emphasized that lasting peace can only be achieved through a two-state solution, with Gaza as part of a future Palestinian state. He sharply criticized the Israeli war of extermination on the Gaza Strip, stating that its "means and methods of warfare are inflicting horrifying, unconscionable suffering on Palestinians."

Turk also denounced what he described as "disturbing, dehumanizing rhetoric" by Israeli officials and criticized the ongoing blockade of UN humanitarian aid deliveries. He called for an investigation into the targeting of civilians in the Gaza Strip outside aid distribution centers.
