UN Security Council Emergency Meeting: Algeria Un Representative Says Israeli Cowardly Attack on Qatar Insult to Diplomacy

Doha: Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amar Bendjama affirmed that the Israeli attack on Qatar was an insult to diplomacy, reiterating his country’s strong condemnation of what he described as cowardly aggression against Doha and expressing Algeria’s full solidarity with Qatar and its people.

According to Qatar News Agency, during the emergency UN Security Council session convened to discuss the Israeli strike on Qatar, Bendjama stated that the attack was not only a violation of the sovereignty of a UN member state but also an affront to diplomacy. He emphasized that the actions by Israel, as the occupying power, demonstrated a lack of intention to pursue peace, release hostages, or end hostilities.

Bendjama further criticized the silence of the international community and the Security Council, suggesting that it was contributing to the chaos. He noted that the Council appeared constrained and was unable to identify the aggressor. He described the strike as a violation of international law and stressed the urgency for the Council to employ all its tools, including sanctions, to prevent further escalation.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, also condemned Israel’s actions, describing them as unlawful and unjustified aggression against Qatar. He suggested that the attack was part of a larger pattern of systemic aggression and violations of international law by Israel, which he argued was undermining regional peace and security.

Ahmad expressed full solidarity with Qatar’s government and people and affirmed Pakistan’s support for Qatar’s right under the UN Charter to take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the safety of those within its territory.
