United States Applauds New Peace Agreement in Congo

Doha: The United States has expressed its support for the recent signing of a Declaration of Principles between the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and representatives of the Congo River Alliance/March 23 Movement. The agreement, facilitated by the State of Qatar, marks a significant step towards achieving enduring peace and stability in the Great Lakes region.

According to EMM, the U.S. government has extended its gratitude to Qatar for playing a crucial role in this diplomatic endeavor. Qatar's leadership in promoting dialogue between the DRC and the M23 has been pivotal in moving towards a peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict.

This development follows the Peace Agreement signed on June 27, 2025, between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Rwanda in Washington, D.C. The new declaration serves to complement and reinforce efforts aimed at establishing lasting peace and prosperity in the region.
