US Energy Secretary Clarifies No Explosive Nuclear Weapons Testing Planned

Washington: US Energy Secretary Chris Wright has assured that there are no intentions to conduct nuclear explosions, despite President Donald Trump's directive to resume nuclear testing. In a recent interview with Fox News, Wright emphasized that the discussions are centered around system tests rather than any actual nuclear detonations.

According to Qatar News Agency, Wright explained that the objective is to develop alternative nuclear weapons, highlighting President Trump's concern over maintaining the United States' military supremacy. Wright, whose department oversees the testing of US nuclear weapons, clarified that the proposed tests would involve all other components of a nuclear weapon to ensure they achieve the desired configuration and are capable of initiating a nuclear explosion if required.

Wright's comments serve as the first official clarification from the Trump administration since the president announced on social media that he had directed the Department of War to begin testing US nuclear weapons, aligning with other nations after a 33-year break. This announcement came just before a scheduled meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea, seemingly intended as a message to other nuclear powers, particularly Russia and China.

Following Trump's announcement, Russia stated it would respond appropriately if any country renounced its commitment to cease nuclear testing, while China urged the US to adhere to the global ban on nuclear testing.
