Washington: US President Donald Trump announced that the ceasefire with Iran remains in effect. Trump's remarks came after US forces launched strikes late Thursday night against Iranian military targets in response to attacks by Iranian forces on three US destroyers transiting the Strait of Hormuz. He said that the three destroyers suffered no damage, while significant damage was inflicted on the Iranian attackers. Trump added that just as they were struck today, they would face even more severe strikes in the future unless they moved quickly to sign an agreement.
According to Qatar News Agency, the United States Central Command said in a statement posted on the X platform that Iranian forces launched missiles, drones, and small boats against the three warships, but none of the vessels were hit. The statement added that US forces neutralized the threats and targeted Iranian military facilities responsible for the attack. It also confirmed that none of the US ships were struck, emphasizing that the US military does not seek escalation but will remain prepared to protect American forces.
The ceasefire between the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other began on Apr. 8. The United States is currently awaiting Iran's response to its proposal for ending the fighting between the two countries.
