US Strikes Missile Launch Sites in Southern Iran Amid Heightened Tensions

Washington: The United States announced early Tuesday that it executed strikes on missile launch sites located in southern Iran, as well as boats it accused of attempting to lay mines. These actions were described as defensive measures by US officials amid escalating tensions in the region.

According to Qatar News Agency, US Central Command spokesperson Tim Hawkins released a statement indicating that the American forces carried out "defensive strikes in southern Iran to protect our forces from threats posed by Iranian forces." The statement did not elaborate further, only noting that the targets comprised missile launch sites and vessels allegedly involved in mine-laying activities.

In related comments, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized the possibility of reaching an agreement with Iran, mentioning ongoing discussions regarding key components of an initial draft. He also highlighted President Donald Trump's desire to finalize a deal and stressed the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open for international navigation.
