Gaza: The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has called on the Israeli occupation authorities to expedite the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip following the implementation of the ceasefire in the region.
According to Qatar News Agency, WFP Representative in Germany, Austria, and Liechtenstein, Martin Frick, emphasized that this is a critical moment for the people of Gaza. He stressed that the ceasefire must allow for the safe opening of border crossings and ensure the unobstructed delivery of humanitarian assistance.
Frick noted that approximately 60,000 tons of food supplies are ready for immediate delivery into Gaza, with an additional 100,000 tons en route to the border crossings. These quantities are sufficient to meet the food needs of Gaza’s population for nearly three months, provided that access is safe and reliable.
He added that the WFP is prepared to reach around 1.6 million people within the first month alone, delivering bread, flour, and essential food rations. Frick underscored that Israel, as the authority controlling access points to Gaza, bears responsibility for permitting the entry of aid and ensuring the safety of humanitarian convoys.
The ceasefire agreement between Hamas and the Israeli entity, reached in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh, came into effect at noon on Friday.
