WHO: Medical Care in Gaza Remains Inadequate Despite Ceasefire

Hanoi: The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed Friday that medical care remains inadequate for the population across the Gaza Strip, nearly two weeks after the start of the latest ceasefire in the Strip. Rick Peeperkorn, WHO Representative in the occupied Palestinian territories, told reporters in Geneva that supplies of medicines and medical equipment, which had been blocked from entering for months, had recently begun arriving. Given that the Israeli occupation has only opened two border crossings, it is difficult to meet existing needs.

According to Qatar News Agency, the UN official added that only 14 of the 36 hospitals in the Strip are partially functioning, as are 64 of the 181 health centers, and 109 of the 359 treatment rooms. He noted that there are major hospitals located in areas still under Israeli control that are inaccessible to patients, including the European Hospital in Gaza.
