World Leaders Urge Immediate Recognition of Palestine and Action Toward Two-State Solution

New york: World leaders speaking at the high-level international conference on the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue and implementation of the two-state solution strongly called for the urgent recognition of the State of Palestine, an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and concrete steps toward achieving lasting peace based on international law.

According to Qatar News Agency, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stressed that recognizing the State of Palestine is not only urgent but essential for ensuring the right of the Palestinian people to live in the state being recognized. In the name of international law, reason, and human dignity, an immediate end to the massacre of Palestinians in Gaza is needed, Sanchez said during his address at the UN General Assembly in New York. Bombs continue to fall on Gaza's civilian population, while hunger kills women, children, and the elderly, he added.

Sanchez underscored that while the conference marks an important step forward in supporting the two-state solution, that vision is not feasible if one side, the Palestinian people, are subjected to genocide. The Spanish Prime Minister also called for full UN membership for the State of Palestine and for concrete measures to end the brutality and make peace possible.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa echoed these calls, urging global recognition of the Palestinian state, an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and an end to what he described as genocide in the besieged territory. He also emphasized the need for full respect for international law, including UN resolutions and the decisions of the International Court of Justice, and called for the removal of obstacles to the two-state solution, including halting illegal settlement expansion and dismantling the separation wall.

Meanwhile, Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin also affirmed that the only path to ending the cycle of horrific violence is a political one, with the two-state solution as the sole credible destination. The conference saw widespread support for renewed international efforts to implement the two-state solution, with a growing number of countries recognizing the State of Palestine as a fundamental step toward achieving lasting peace in the Middle East.
