World Summit for Social Development Concludes with Global Acclaim for Doha Political Declaration


Doha: The Second World Summit for Social Development, hosted by Qatar from November 4 to 6, concluded with broad international praise for its achievements and outcomes in advancing social development globally. The event successfully linked social development to sustainable development, a critical theme emphasized throughout the summit.



According to Qatar News Agency, the summit’s closing session highlighted the Doha Political Declaration’s adoption, reiterating its importance in eradicating poverty, providing decent work opportunities, and achieving social inclusion as vital components for sustainable development. The declaration aims to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.



In her address, HE Annalena Baerbock, President of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, noted the summit’s significance in advancing social development. She emphasized the Doha Political Declaration’s role in building just, secure, and resilient societies, marking a shift from diagnosing problems to taking practical steps for solutions through multilateral efforts.



The summit, attended by approximately 8,000 representatives, including heads of state, government officials, and various stakeholders, underscored the critical focus on transforming ideas into tangible actions and initiatives to meet Sustainable Development Goals. Baerbock further commended Qatar for its exceptional organization and significant contributions to the summit’s success, stressing the importance of peace for sustainable development.



The event concluded with the lowering of the UN flag at the Qatar National Convention Centre, marking the official end of the summit. Participants reaffirmed the importance of social development and presented practical solutions for achieving sustainable development, reinforcing the summit’s impact on global social progress.
