Barcelona defeated Villareal 4-3 in matchday 3 of La Liga on Sunday at the Estadi de la Ceramica.

Gavi (12’minutes), F de Jong (15’minutes), F Torres (68’minutes), and Lewandowski (71’minutes) scored the visitors.

Foyth (26’minutes), Sorloth (40’minutes), and Baena (50’minutes) netted for the home side.

The Catalan giants raised their tally to seven points in the third place. Villareal remained with three points in the 13th spot.

Kudus Signs for West Ham

West Ham United have reached an agreement with Ajax for the transfer of Mohammed Kudus in a USD 47 million deal.

“The Hammers fought off intense competition from some of Europe’s leading clubs to secure the services of the exciting Ghana international attacker from Ajax,” the English club said Sunday in a statement on its website.

“The 23-year-old joins the Irons on a five-year contract for an undisclosed fee, becoming the Club’s fourth major summer signing following his former Ajax teammate and Mexico international Edson Alvarez, Greece defender Dinos Mavropanos and England midfielder James Ward-Prowse.” “A strong all-round player and prolific dribbler capable of making and scoring goals, Kudus has established himself as one of European football’s most sought after young players. Qatar Expo League: Al Wakrah, Al Shamal Draw 2-2

Al Wakrah and Al Shamal play out a 2-2 draw in their match on Sunday at Al Janoub Stadium within the second round of the 2023-2024 season Expo Stars League.

Ali Olwan netted the first goal for Al Shamal in the 34th minute and Ricardo Gomez scored from a penalty kick in the 76th minute.

On the other hand, Gelson Dala scored for Al Wakrah in 76th minute and Mohamed Benyettou scored from a penalty kick in 90+3 minute.

Al Wakrah raised their tally to four points in the fourth place, while Al Wakrah ranked sixth with two points.

QSL Holds Ooredoo Cup 2023-2024 Season Draw

Qatar Stars League (QSL) on Monday held the draw for 2023-2024 season Ooredoo Cup, which is scheduled to kick off in September, at its headquarters in Al Bidda Tower.

The clubs were divided into two groups based on the final standings in the 2022-2023 season league championship. GROUP A included Al Arabi, Al Wakrah, Qatar SC, Al Ahli, Umm Salal, and Muaither.

GROUP B included Al Duhail, Al Sadd, Al Gharafa, Al Markhiya, Al Rayyan, and Al Shamal.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency , Director of Public Relations Sabah Rabiah Al Kuwari said the tournament had achieved many of its goals through an active partnership with Ooredoo company, which contributes to football support initiatives in Qatar and encourages sports excellence. He pointed to the tournament’s contribution to introducing many players who did not have the opportunity to play with the first team during the league championship.

Al Kuwari said that the tournament develops the competition in cooperation with the sponsor, highlighting that the Asian Cup will give the tournament great importance.

For his part, Head of Corporate Services at Ooredoo, Thani Al Maliki expressed pleasure at renewing sponsorship of the tournament in cooperation with the Qatar Stars League amid aspirations to take joint steps that contribute to shaping a promising future for football in Qatar.

Qatar to Kick Off Asian Men’s Handball Qualification for Paris 2024 with a Match against China

The Asian Handball Federation (AHF) has unveiled the match schedule of the Asian Men’s Handball Qualification for 33rd Summer Olympic Games (Paris 2024) , which will be held in Doha from October 18 – 28, 2023.

Qatar was drawn in Group A along with Saudi Arabia, South Korea, the UAE, India and China, while Group B included Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Uzbekistan, Japan and Kazakhstan.

The Qatari team will start their campaign against China on October 18, while their second match will be against India on October 19. In their third match, Qatar will take on the UAE on October 21, followed by another against South Korea on October 22. Qatar will concludes the group stage matches with one against Saudi Arabia on October 24.

The winner of the competition will qualify for the Men’s Handball Competition of the 33rd Summer Olympic Games in Paris, scheduled for July 25 – August 11, 2024.

MoFA receives credentials copy from the new Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to the UAE

H.E. Saif Abdulla Alshamisi, Assistant Undersecretary for Protocol Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, received a copy of the credentials of H.E. Dana Goldfinca, Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to the UAE.

H.E. Saif Alshamisi wished the new Ambassador success in the performance of her duties and in enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation between the UAE and his country.

The newly appointed Ambassador expressed her pleasure at representing his country in the United Arab Emirates, which enjoys a prestigious regional and international position under the visionary policy of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.

Bahraini Ambassador attends International Classical Music Festival in Russia

Ahmed Abdulrahman Al-Saati, Bahraini Ambassador to Russia, attended the concert of Bahraini maestro, Waheed Al-Khan, held as part of the International Classical Music Festival in Sochi, Russia.

Deputy Governor of Krasnodar, who attended the closing ceremony of the festival, welcomed Bahrain’s participation in this year’s festival, noting that Waheed Al-Khan is the first Arab musician to present oriental melodies in the region.

Addressing the ceremony, Ambassador Al-Saati commended the ongoing Bahraini-Russian cultural cooperation, stressing the importance of exchanged visits between musical bands to boost bilateral cooperation.

Shura Council’s Second Deputy Chairperson affirms depth of Bahraini-Saudi relations

Second Deputy Chairperson of the Shura Council, Dr. Jehad Abdulla Al-Fadhel, has affirmed the Shura Council’s constant interest in deepening cooperation with its Saudi Counterpart, by conducting joint legislative and parliamentary research and studies, as well as exchanging expertise and knowledge, to contribute to strengthening the joint deep-rooted fraternal ties.

Dr. Al-Fadhel was speaking while meeting here today, in the presence of Dr. Kareema Mohammed Al-Abbasi, the Shura Council Secretary-General, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Shutairy, the Director-General of the Saudi Shura Council’s Research Centre.

The Saudi delegation is visiting the kingdom to be informed about its legislative system and the research support provided by the Shura Council’s Secretariat-General to members.

The Second Deputy Chairperson of the Shura Council affirmed that the depth of the Bahraini-Saudi relations paves the way for enhancing bilateral cooperation across various development fields.

She highlighted the importance of reports and studies prepared by parliamentary research centres in supporting the legislative work and the duties carried out by lawmakers.

She praised the ongoing cooperation and partnership between the Shura councils in the two kingdoms, citing their keenness to unify their stances vis-à-vis various issues discussed at international parliamentary gatherings.

The Shura Council Secretary-General welcomed the Saudi delegation, expressing hope that the visit will contribute to developing the legislative process in the two kingdoms. She also stressed the importance of carrying on cooperation and exchange of expertise among the legislative councils of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

The Director-General of the Saudi Shura Council’s Research Centre lauded the progress witnessed by the Shura Council in Bahrain, affirming that it is considered one of the advanced and exemplary legislative councils.

He praised the modern system adopted by the Shura Council to support its members, lauding the strategies and plans implemented by the Secretariat General to ensure the efficiency and quality of parliamentary reports and research that constitute a fundamental pillar in legislative work.

The Saudi delegation visited the Shura Council’s meeting hall, where they informed about the sessions’ mechanisms and the electronic systems applied there, as well as the communication systems used before and during sessions.

The delegation also paid a visit to the Isa Cultural Centre, and toured its sections. It was also briefed about the role National Library and the Digital Library, as well as the role of the centre in spreading culture, sciences and thought.

SCW Secretary General participates in Gulf Forum for Family Policies

Hala Al Ansari, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Women (SWC), has emphasised the importance of developing social policies and linking them to citizenship and identity, as well as assessing their impact on societal cohesion and stability.

She stressed the importance of developing and giving top priority to social while continuing to contain the repercussions of the health pandemic with their economic and social effects, as well as emerging challenges and phenomena that must be dealt with at the level of the threat they pose to the collective identity, the social fabric, and the intellectual and ideological system of the peoples of the region.

The secretary-general made the statements as she participated as a lead speaker in the symposium entitled “Social Policies to Consolidate the Practice of Responsible Citizenship in the GCC Countries” which was organised by the Executive Office of the Labour and Social Affairs Councils of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Oman.

Al Ansari indicated that social policies cement social cohesion in the short run, and act as an engine for national recovery programmes in the long run, by focusing on the elements of social protection and the fairness of providing opportunities, and achieving the required balance between the requirements of economic development and the necessities of policies.

Al Ansari showcased several practical practices pursued by Bahrain in terms of consolidating citizenship and responsibility, including the National Plan to Promote the Spirit of Belonging to the Nation and Reinforce the Values of Nationalism (Bahrainouna) which has been developed and implemented since 2019 through a variety of initiatives and programmes in partnership with state and community institutions.

She affirmed that all these programmes and initiatives stem from the national plans and policies of educational and youth institutions with specialisation and relationship to social development and the advancement of Bahraini women, and they are followed up through specific measurement indicators to show their impact.

The National Plan for the Advancement of Women prioritised family stability and strengthened women’s role in preserving values and national identity, Al Ansari said, noting that it is a tributary of Bahrain’s comprehensive social policy.

The “Women’s Support Centre” at the SCW was established to follow up on all Bahraini women’s needs and solve the problems they face, whether related to social protection, housing services, family affairs, or even issues related to the work environment, she added.

Al Ansari highlighted that Bahrain is promoting projects to empower productive families and has allocated two awards carrying the name of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women. These initiatives aim to link national products to local and international markets, enabling families to expand their business and linking national products to local and international markets.

Responsible citizenship is formed because of the efforts undertaken by the family and the state in its various institutions, starting with the family, educational institutions, media and religious platforms, and civil society institutions, she said.

Al Ansari recommended continued cooperation and exchange of experience among GCC countries to strengthen national identity and responsible citizenship through the implementation of social policies in the Gulf. This will increase the impact of these policies on the region’s progress, she added.

She emphasised the importance of consolidating citizenship and social cohesion values, modernising social policies in GCC countries, linking them to security indicators, and highlighting the family system’s role in socialisation as well as emphasising the role of responsible media, national educational institutions, and religious discourse in respecting national values.

Al Ansari recommended strengthening partnerships with civil society and the private sector for social policies, developing a GCC guiding framework, strengthening national belonging, establishing a common platform, and intensifying qualitative studies.

Bahrain-US strategic ties highlighted

Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Political Affairs Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa received Paul Dean, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Arms Control, Verification and Compliance.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed joint cooperation, partnership and strategic dialogue between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the USA in the political, economic and security fields.

They stressed the importance of harnession international concerted efforts to

prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, ensure cyber security, and joint action to consolidate security, stability and peace in the Middle East and the world.

The Undersecretary underlined Bahrain’s commitment to reinforcing coordination with the US State Department’s Office of Arms Control, Verification, and Compliance.

He stressed the importance of cooperation to exchange expertise and information on the use of modern technologies and artificial intelligence in space affairs and the reduction of the risks of armaments, in addition to the peaceful use of nuclear energy for the purposes of sustainable development.
