4.7 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes South of Kermadec Islands Off Coast of New Zealand


Auckland: A 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck Wednesday south of the Kermadec Islands, off the coast of New Zealand.



According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 131 km. Despite the strength of the tremor, no tsunami warnings were issued in the region.



So far, there have been no reports of human or material losses as a result of the earthquake. The Kermadec Islands, located about 1,000 kilometers northeast of New Zealand’s North Island, are frequently subjected to strong earthquakes, highlighting the seismic activity that characterizes this area.
