5.2-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Southern California

San Diego: A 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck Monday near San Diego in southern California, western United States. The tremor was felt as far north as Los Angeles, which is the largest city in the state.

According to Qatar News Agency, California is no stranger to seismic activity. Seismologists have long warned that a potentially devastating earthquake is almost certain to occur in the state within the next 30 years. Historical data supports these concerns, as the state has experienced significant earthquakes in the past.

In 1994, a 6.7-magnitude earthquake hit California, resulting in at least 60 fatalities and causing an estimated USD 10 billion in damage. Similarly, in 1989, a 6.9-magnitude earthquake in San Francisco County claimed 67 lives. These events underscore the ongoing seismic risks the state faces.
