Aru Islands: An earthquake measuring 5.3 magnitude on the Richter scale struck on Sunday the Aru Islands in Indonesia’s Maluku province.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said that the epicenter of the quake was 143 kilometers northeast of the Aru Islands, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
There have been no reports of casualties or material damage as a result of the earthquake so far.
Indonesia is regularly exposed to earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
