78 Killed in Bus-Truck Collision in Western Afghanistan

Herat: Seventy-eight passengers, most of them migrants returning from Iran, were killed in a collision between a passenger bus, a truck, and a motorcycle in western Afghanistan.

According to Qatar News Agency, the provincial authorities in Herat reported that a passenger bus heading to Kabul collided with a motorcycle and then a fuel-laden truck in the Guzara area. The collision caused a massive explosion, leading to the death of 78 passengers, with 17 children among the victims.

In a related development, chief physician at the military hospital Mohammed Janan Muqadas explained that the severity of the burns made it difficult to identify the victims' identities.

Police stated that the accident was caused by excessive speed and negligence on the part of the bus driver. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the main road and violently collided first with a motorcycle and then with a truck.

This accident is considered one of the most violent traffic accidents in Afghanistan in recent years.
