El alamein: The seventh session of the Joint Higher Committee between the State of Qatar and the Arab Republic of Egypt convened today in El Alamein, marking a significant moment in the bilateral relations between the two nations. The Qatari delegation was led by HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, while the Egyptian side was headed by HE Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Dr. Badr Abdelatty.
According to African Press Organization, the session focused on reviewing the cooperation between Qatar and Egypt, particularly in fields such as economy, investment, diplomacy, health, agriculture, and food security. Both sides acknowledged the progress in Qatari-Egyptian relations, a testament to the leadership of both countries and the increase in high-level visits, reflecting a mutual desire to expand these relations.
Discussions also covered regional developments, diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions, and enhance regional security and stability. The discussions included the situation in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories. Both nations expressed their opposition to any moves that might displace Palestinians or change the demographic or geographic nature of the occupied territories. They also highlighted the necessity of reopening the Strait of Hormuz to ensure maritime security and the flow of international trade.
The session further addressed the Sudanese crisis, with both countries emphasizing the need for international responsibility towards Sudan's neighboring countries, preserving Sudan's unity and territorial integrity, and supporting Sudanese institutions to restore security and stability.
Several agreements were signed during the session, including a draft agreement on mutual administrative assistance for customs law application, a memorandum of understanding for oversight cooperation, a cooperation agreement between the Qatar Fund for Development and the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development, and a grant agreement for establishing HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani Hospital in Sohag Governorate. The session concluded with the signing of the minutes of the Joint Higher Committee's seventh session.
