90 Bodies Identified Out of 330 Handed Over by Israeli Occupation to Gaza

Gaza: Spokesperson for the Forensic Evidence Department in Gaza, Mahmoud Ashour, announced that medical crews have been able to identify only 90 bodies out of the 330 victims handed over by the Israeli occupation to the Ministry of Health since the ceasefire came into effect on 10 October.

According to Qatar News Agency, Ashour stated on Sunday that they feel helpless in the face of unidentified bodies, and international bodies must intervene to provide forensic laboratory equipment. He explained that medical teams rely on forensic imaging and eyewitness accounts from families to identify the deceased, noting the urgent need for scientific laboratories to conduct fingerprint and DNA testing.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health in Gaza had launched an online portal featuring selected images, ensuring the dignity and privacy of the victims, to allow families to identify their relatives remotely before the bodies are transferred to hospitals.

Ashour added that some bodies arrived with gunshot wounds to the chest and head, others with shrapnel injuries and fractures to the skull and limbs, in addition to decomposed and frozen bodies, complicating examination and documentation efforts.

Since 7 October 2023, the Israeli aggression on Gaza has resulted in the deaths of more than 69,000 Palestinians, over 170,000 injuries, and massive destruction affecting 90 percent of civilian infrastructure.
