AFC Champions League: Al Ahli Coach Prepares for Tough Clash Against Al Sadd Tomorrow


Doha: German coach Matthias Jaissle of Al Ahli Saudi FC acknowledged the tough challenge his team will face on Monday against Al Sadd at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in the seventh round of the AFC Champions League Elite. Speaking during the pre-match press conference, Jaissle said that although they have been away from continental competition since November, the team has made significant progress in recent weeks, and were able to prepare well. They will enter the match with a full squad.



According to Qatar News Agency, Jaissle expressed optimism about the recent winter transfers, stating they signed three new players, and he believes they’re a valuable addition to the team. Al Ahli signed Brazilian Galeno from Porto, Belgian Matteo Dams, and Eid Al Mawlid. Jaissle praised Al Sadd’s quality, particularly their strong attacking line, and said he had analyzed the team, who are also competing for Qatar Stars League title.



The German coach also had high praise for former Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez, saying that Mahrez is a great player, he is making a big impact and is crucial for the team. He expects a tough match and hopes to achieve a positive result.



Al Ahli striker Ivan Toney also spoke about the upcoming match, saying his team is focused on maintaining their positive momentum in the competition. He mentioned that preparations have gone very well. Toney said they have an important match ahead, and they will give their best to secure a positive result. He also praised Mahrez for his contributions to the team, saying that he’s been a great asset for the team and has been playing really well.



Currently, Al Hilal leads the West Zone standings with 16 points from six matches, followed by Al Ahli on goal difference. Al Nassr 13 points, Al Sadd 12, Al Wasl 11, Persepolis 6, Al Rayyan and Esteghlal have 5, Al Gharafa and Pakhtakor have 4, and Al Ain and Al Shorta have 2 points each. Al Hilal, Al Ahli, Al Nassr, Al Sadd, and Al Wasl all secured their place in Round of 16, with the top eight teams in the West Zone advancing to knockout rounds.
