Arab-Islamic Summit: Mikati Calls for Immediate Halt to Israeli Aggression on Lebanon.

Riyadh: Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati has called for an immediate halt to the ongoing Israeli aggression on his country, declaring a ceasefire and establishing the foundations of sustainable stability. In a speech during the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit held in Riyadh on Monday, Mikati stressed the Lebanese government's firm and unwavering commitment to international resolution 1701 and strengthening the deployment of the army in the south and in close cooperation with international peacekeeping forces. According to Qatar News Agency, Mikati emphasized that Lebanon is experiencing an unprecedented historical and fateful crisis, which threatens both its present and future. He highlighted that the country is suffering from blatant Israeli aggression that violates the most basic rules of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, designed to protect civilians in armed conflicts. Mikati noted that the Israeli aggression has resulted in significant humanitarian losses, with the number of victims exceeding three thousand dead and more than thirteen thousand wounded. Additionally, about one million and two hundred thousand Lebanese have been forced to flee within a few hours. He further explained that the economic repercussions of this aggression exacerbate the tragedy. The World Bank's latest estimates place the damages and material losses at $8.5 billion to date. The Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister underscored that it is unacceptable for Israel to persist in its ongoing aggression against Lebanon and its people, violating the country's sovereignty and threatening its existence without accountability or supervision.
