At Least 14 Killed as Devastating Windstorms Sweep Central, Northern Pakistan

Islamabad: At least 14 people were killed and more than 100 others injured following the devastating windstorms that swept through central and northern Pakistan, after a severe heatwave.

According to Qatar News Agency, Pakistani officials reported on Sunday that most of the fatalities were caused by the collapse of walls and roofs, while at least two individuals died after being struck by solar panels dislodged by intense winds, and one man was killed and three others injured by lightning strikes.

They added that the storm, which swept through Islamabad, as well as Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces on Saturday, uprooted trees and brought down power poles.

Spokesperson for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Punjab, Mazhar Hussain, stated that the windstorms followed a heatwave that had brought sharply rising temperatures over the course of three to four days.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department predicted further windstorms across the nation.
