Saudi Crown Prince inaugurates Saudi-African Summit in Riyadh

His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, has announced the launch of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ Development Initiative in Africa by inaugurating development projects and programmess worth over $1 billion in African countries over ten years.

“We also look forward to making new Saudi investments, worth more than $25 billion, in various sectors, financing $10 billion in exports and providing $5 billion in additional development financing to Africa until 2030, HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman said while inaugurating the Saudi-African Summit in Riyadh today on behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has provided more than $45 billion to support development and humanitarian projects in 54 African countries. The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) aid has reached more than $450 million in 46 African countries. We, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, are determined to develop cooperation and partnership with African countries and expand areas of trade and integration,” he added.

The Saudi Crown Prince also said: “The Kingdom will increase the number of embassies in Africa to more than 40. In recognition of Africa’s role, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was among the first nations to publicly endorse the African Union’s bid for permanent membership in the Group of Twenty (G20). The Kingdom is keen to support innovative solutions to address African debt, as it sought during its presidency of the G20 in 2020 to launch initiatives to suspend debt service payments during the pandemic for low-income countries, and the Common Framework for Debt Treatments initiative in many African.”

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia supports sustainable development and recognises every country’s right to utilize their resources and capacities. We reaffirm our commitment to ensuring the security and durability of energy supplies, benefiting from all energy sources, developing clean fuel solutions, and providing food to over 750 million Africans,” he added.

Labour Minister receives UK Ambassador

Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Minister of Labour and Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA)’s Chairman of the Board of Directors received Alastair Long, the newly appointed UK Ambassador to Bahrain.

The meeting reviewed the historic Bahrain-UK relations and means to enhance them, including in the labour sector and human resources development.

The minister highlighted projects and initiatives to maintain the stability and growth of the labour sector, including procedures to maintain a healthy work environment; in addition to Bahrain’s efforts in introducing legislations that protect workers’ rights in accordance with international labour standards, and combatting human trafficking.

The ambassador commended Bahrain’s efforts in consolidating workers’ rights and combating human trafficking, as well as its advanced ranking in this area. He also noted the role of laws and legislation which enhance Bahrain’s position as an attractive investment destination.

SFD provides over $580 million in development loans to African countries for key vital projects

The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) Chief Executive Officer, Sultan Al-Marshad, has signed 14 new development loan agreements with 12 African ministers, worth over $580 million to fund projects in healthcare, water, education, and transportation sectors in Angola, Burkina Faso, Benin, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Guinea, Malawi, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, and Tanzania. The signing ceremony took place in the Saudi-Arab-African Economic Conference held in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In conjunction with the loan agreements signing, the SFD CEO signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the African Finance Corporation’s CEO, Samaila Zubairu. This MoU will enable SFD to collaborate with AFC to identify, develop, and co-finance infrastructure and industrial projects across the continent, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The 14 development loan agreements signed today include the Construction and Equipping of a Mother and Child Referral Hospital in Guinea for $75 million, a Riyadh Referral hospital in Sierra Leone for $50 million, Boarding Secondary Schools for Girls in Several Regions of Niger for $28 million, and the Construction of Higher College For Teacher Preparation And The Scientific Secondary School Project in Benin for $40 million. In addition, the agreements include the Rehabilitation of the King Khalid University Hospital in Bujumbura, Burundi for $50 million, the Manga Regional Hospital (Phase 2) in Burkina Faso for $17 million, and Watersheds in the Islands of Santiago, Saint Antao, and Boavista, Cabo Verde for $17 million.

The SFD will fund the Catumbela Industrial Development Project (Phase 1) in Angola for $100 million, the Expansion of The Transmission and Distribution Water System in the East of Kigali, Rwanda for $20 million, and the Construction and Rehabilitation of the Mangochi-Makanjira Road in Malawi for $20 million. Other agreements include the Construction and Equipping of Five Hospitals in different regions of Mozambique for $50 million, the Construction of the Muera Dam in Mozambique for $50 million, the Rehabilitation and Upgrade of Two parts of National Road No. 1 in Mozambique for $50 million and lastly the Benaco to Kyaka Transmission Line Project in Tanzania for $13 million.

These agreements and the MoU will have a positive impact on the lives of millions of people in different regions across Africa by improving access to healthcare, education, water, transportation, and economic opportunities, stimulating economic growth, and creating jobs.

Importantly, these projects address a wide range of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), priorities, including poverty, health, education, gender equality, water and sanitation, decent work, economic growth, industry, innovation, infrastructure, inequality reduction, sustainable cities and communities, and climate change.

In line with its mission to promote global sustainable development since 1975, SFD has funded more than 800 development projects worth $20 billion in over 100 countries around world. In Africa alone, SFD has financed over 400 projects worth $10.7 billion in 46 countries. This accounts for 57% of SFD’s funding in developing countries worldwide.

Information Ministry participates in WorldDAB

Manama, Abdullah Ahmed Al Balooshi, Information Ministry Assistant Undersecretary for Technical Affairs participated as a key speaker in WorldDAB Summit 2023, held in Munich.

Al Balooshi showcased Bahrain’s experience in launching digital radio broadcasting in private studios and activating digital audio broadcasting service (DAB+). He spoke on future plans and cooperation with companies specialised in the production of equipment, noting the importance of adding Arabic text.

The conference discussed the adoption of DAB+ implementation of digital radio, and showcasing progress in using the technology across the world.

The summit was attended by over 500 global DAB+ experts from across the radio industry, including broadcast, automotive and receiver manufacturers, leaders in programming, creative content and marketing.

Architecture and Design Commission Takes Part in Downtown Design Fair in Dubai

Riyadh, The Architecture and Design Commission is taking part in the Downtown Design Fair, which is being held from November 8 to 11 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with a pavilion that displays products stamped “Designed in Saudi”.

The products reflect the creativity and potential of local industrial designers; each product underwent a series of evaluation by a panel of international and local experts in the industrial design sector before being granted the brand.

The stamp is part of the “Designed in Saudi” initiative, which is concerned with developing the industrial design sector in the Kingdom through a strategic vision that aims to empower local talent in industrial product design by creating a supportive environment.

By participating in the fair, the Architecture and Design Commission seeks to acknowledge designers from the Kingdom and provide them with a platform to display and promote their designs on an international stage.

The fair also provides an opportunity for the designers to interact with world counterparts, and exchange ideas and experience, which contributes to the development of the sector.

Royal Commission for AlUla: 7 Endangered Arabian Leopard Cubs Born in Saudi Arabia

AlUla, The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) has announced the birth of seven Arabian leopard cubs this year. The announcement confirms the commission’s efforts to achieve its goals of rehabilitating the ecosystems and protecting the Arabian leopards from extinction, one of the world’s most endangered animals.

The leopard cubs were born at Prince Saud bin Faisal Wildlife Research Center in the Taif Governorate during the past five months, bringing the total number of Arab leopards to 27, doubling their numbers since the start of the Arab Leopards Project of the Royal Commission in 2020.

Through its strategy to preserve the Arabian leopards and protect them from extinction, the RCU seeks to rehabilitate ecosystems in accordance with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030. It also seeks to rehabilitate the natural environment in line with national goals, including the Saudi Green Initiative, slated to make 50% of AlUla’s land a natural reserve.
