His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al–Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry, met today with Her Excellency Mrs. Raquel Peña de Antuña, Vice President of the Dominican Republic, currently visiting the country.

During the meeting, officials touched on the bilateral relations between the two countries in the commercial, industrial, and investment fields, as well as ways to enhance and develop them. Officials also discussed aspects of joint cooperation between the two nations.

During the meeting, His Excellency the Minister of Commerce and Industry highlighted the economic policies Qatar had put in place to support the private sector, including the incentives, legislation, and investment opportunities made available to companies wishing to invest and establish a presence in Qatar.

H.E. Minister of Commerce and Industry inaugurates 8th edition of Qatar International Boat Show

Under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al–Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al–Abdullah Al–Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry, inaugurated the eighth edition of the Qatar International Boat Show, taking place on November 16-20, 2021.

In a statement following the inauguration ceremony, H.E. the Minister of Commerce and Industry stressed the importance of the exhibition, as it has gained importance on the agenda of Qatar-based events and has become an opportunity to showcase the latest developments in the marine tourism sector in Qatar, thus instilling the nation‘s position as a leading global tourism destination.

The exhibition also comprises a perfect platform to introduce the pioneers of boat manufacturing in Qatar and the world, to strengthen partnerships, and conclude important business deals, as well as helplocal companies benefit from the expertise of leading foreign companies in this industry, H.E. pointed out.

The Qatar International Boat Show is organized to shed light on the best practices and the latest developments ofmarine industries locally and globally.

UAE Foreign Minister, Russian Minister of Industry and Trade discuss cooperation

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has received Denis Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

The meeting, which was held at the headquarters of Expo 2020 Dubai, dealt with bilateral relations and means to further develop joint cooperation.

The two ministers discussed the UAE’s organisation of Expo 2020 Dubai, along with Expo’s role in promoting collective international action and stimulating global economic growth.

Sheikh Abdullah welcomed the visit of Manturov, commending the UAE-Russian comprehensive and developed strategic relations and highlighting the keenness to further develop them in all sectors to meet the aspirations of the leaderships of both countries and peoples.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Mohammed Ahmed bin Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Ambassador to Russia.

H.E. Minister of Commerce and Industry inaugurates first edition of Qatar International Exhibition for Travel & Tourism

Under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al–Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Abdullah Al–Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry, inaugurated the first edition of Qatar International Exhibition for Travel & Tourism, taking place at the Doha Exhibition & Convention Center (DECC), on November 16-18, 2021.

After the inauguration ceremony, H.E. the Minister of Commerce and Industry toured the exhibition to see the various pavilions, services, and investment opportunities offered by the participating companies and entities.

The Qatar International Exhibition for Travel & Tourism features the participation of about 150 local and international exhibitors specializing in travel and tourism from 34 countries from around the world. The exhibition includes a program of business meetings and a series of remote seminars on the latest trends and developments provided by the various tourism sectors.

H.E. Undersecretary of Ministry of Commerce and Industry stresses strength of Qatari-U.S. bilateral relations

His Excellency Sultan bin Rashid Al Khater, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, chaired the Economic and Commercial Cooperation Session organized within the fourth annual Qatar-U.S. Strategic Dialogue, taking place in Washington DC.

On the Qatari side, representatives of a number of government agencies and relevant bodies participated in the session including the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Finance, the Investment Promotion Agency, the Qatar Investment Authority, the Qatar Central Bank, the Qatar Development Bank, and the US-Qatar Business Council.

During his speech at the session, H.E. the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry stressed that the meeting represented the longstanding ties between the two nations and reaffirmed their mutual commitment to strengthening the economic and commercial cooperation between the State of Qatar and the United States of America.

Qatar has taken unprecedented measures to limit the virus’s impact, both socially and economically, including economic stimulus packages, H.E. Mr. Al Khater stated.

Qatar’s national vision, QNV 2030, emphasizes the importance of women’s participation in strengthening and building the future of Qatar, H.E. affirmed, noting in this regard that Qatar today had the highest rate of female economic participation in the Arab world and that many Qatari women occupied leading and executive roles in both the public and private sectors.

Qatar is pursuing economic diversification to gradually reduce its dependence on hydrocarbon industries, and move toward a knowledge-based economy, H.E. stated.

Qatar will continue to expand and modernize its world-class transportation and communications infrastructures to bolster trade and logistics, H.E. Mr. Al Khater affirmed.

H.E. Mr. Al Khater indicated that Qatar hosted about 120 wholly-owned U.S. companies, and 640 U.S.-Qatar joint ventures.

H.E. said Qatar is on its way to becoming a regional hub for technological innovation. The State has created special economic zones to attract foreign capital, particularly in the fields of logistics, FinTech, and advanced manufacturing, H.E. Mr. Al Khater pointed out, further stating that these distinct commercial areas provided significant fiscal and regulatory incentives, in addition to infrastructure support.

At the conclusion of his speech, His Excellency the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry

reiterated Qatar’s commitment to fairness, transparency, high standards, and the rule of law in international trade and investment, which in turn, would instill a more open global trading system.

The Economic and Commercial Cooperation Session featured several discussion panels on Qatari investments in the United States; investment opportunities in Qatar and the U.S.; ways to deepen capital markets and accelerate Fintech; and women’s economic participation.

His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al–Abdullah Al–Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry, met today with Italy’s Minister of Economic Development, Giancarlo Giorgetti, and the accompanying delegation currently visiting the country.

During the meeting, officials touched on the bilateral relations between the two countries and discussed aspects of joint cooperation in the trade, investment, and industrial fields, as well as ways to enhance and develop them. The meeting also discussed trade policies between the two countries, and pointed out the efforts exerted by both to confront the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the meeting, H.E. the Minister of Commerce and Industry highlighted the economic policies Qatar had put in place to support the private sector, including the incentives, legislation, and investment opportunities made available in Qatar to companies wishing to take advantage of all that Qatar has to offer.

Trade and investment ties between Qatar and Italy have witnessed significant growth. The volume of trade exchange between the two countries amounted to about 1.946 billion USD from January to August 2021. Italy ranked as Qatar’s 8th trading partner in 2020.

Ministry of Commerce & Industry participates in Challenge and Innovation Forum

The Ministry of Commerce & Industry is participating in the Challenge and Innovation Forum (CIF) Qatar 2021, organized by the Ministry of Sports and Youth represented by the Qatar Scientific Club, under the slogan ‘With Mind, We Solve Problems’, taking place over five days from November 7-11, at the Qatar National Convention Center.

The Ministry’s participation comes in the form of a special pavilion, with aims at enhancing the protection of intellectual property rights, widely disseminate information thereon and achieve the desired benefit from them.

During its participation in the Forum, the Ministry is showcasing the most significant initiatives in the field of intellectual property rights protection, and the laws and legislations that have been issued to protect these entitlements. In addition, the Ministry is highlighting the most prominent e-services it provides in this field, as well as pointing out patent registration mechanisms for all participants in the Forum, and the procedures followed to this end.

For her part, Mrs. Amna Al-Kuwari, Director of the Intellectual Property Rights Protection Department at the Ministry of Commerce &Industry, participated in a panel discussion entitled ‘Innovation and Sustainable Development’. During the debate, she previewed the department’s role in terms of patents, as well as the part played by international organizations in patent-related issues.

Mrs. Al-Kuwari further highlighted the initiative of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in terms of establishing technology and innovation support centers, as they represent an important reference for innovators wishing to patent their inventions as per the highest international standards.

The Challenge and Innovation Forum is one of the activities taking place under ‘Doha, Capital of Culture in Islamic World’, and includes a number of competitions, interactive events and scientific programs aimed at motivating and encouraging inventors from all over the world.

His Excellency Mr. Sultan bin Rashid Al-Khater, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, inaugurated the sixth edition of Hospitality Qatar 2021, taking place at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center on November 8-11, 2021.

The inauguration was attended by H.E. Mr. Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive and Chairman of Qatar Tourism, H. E Mr. Mohamed Bin Ahmed Twar Al Kuwari, First Vice-Chairman of Qatar Chamber, and a number of ambassadors and businessmen.

After the inauguration ceremony, H.E. Mr. Al-Khater toured the exhibition to look at the various pavilions, services, and products offered by the participating companies and institutions.

On inaugurating the exhibition, H.E. Mr. Al-Khater, stressed the importance of Hospitality Qatar 2021, as it comprises a chance to learn about the development in Qatar’s hospitality sector, especially in light of potential commercial opportunities due to the projected growth of the national economy.

The exhibition moreover comprises an important platform for forming new investment partnerships with major international companies specialized in this field, H.E. pointed out. It also contributes to encouraging investors and businessmen to explore promising prospects and investment opportunities available within the Qatari hospitality sector, and thus benefit from developing their businesses and expanding into regional and global markets.

The Hospitality Qatar exhibition features the participation of about 170 local and international exhibitors experienced in the tourism and hospitality sector.

His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al–Abdullah Al–Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry, met today with His Excellency Mr. Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Omani Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, on the sidelines of his participation in the first edition of the annual Gulf Entrepreneurs Forum, taking place in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, on November 8-11, 2021.

During the meeting, officials touched on the bilateral relations between the two nations and discussed aspects of joint cooperation in the trade, investment, and industrial fields, as well as ways to enhance and develop them.
