Earthquake of 5.3 Magnitude Hits Eastern Indonesia

Sumba: An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck the remote island of Sumba, eastern Indonesia.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Indonesian Meteorological Agency reported that the earthquake was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers and approximately 36 kilometers northeast of Waingapu on Sumba Island.

The agency's statement indicated that the earthquake did not trigger a tsunami, and there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage to buildings.

Earthquakes regularly strike various parts of Indonesia, as the country lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where multiple tectonic plates meet, causing frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
