European Stock Indices Close Mixed Following ECB Rate Cut


London: European stock indices closed mixed at the end of Thursday’s trading, after the European Central Bank’s decision to cut interest rates to 2.5 percent.



According to Qatar News Agency, the European Stoxx 600 index ended trading down 0.03 points, or 0.19 percent, to reach 555.90 points. The British FTSE 100 index also fell by 73 points, or 0.83 percent, to record 8682.84 points at the close.



In contrast, the German DAX index closed up 338.45 points, or 1.47 percent, to end trading at 23419.48 points. The French CAC 40 index rose by about 23.92 points, or 0.29 percent, to reach 8197.67 points at the close of trading.



The European Central Bank decided earlier Thursday to cut interest rates by 25 basis points, bringing the interest rate to 2.5 percent.
