French Industry Minister Urges EU to Protect Internal Market More Effectively

Paris: French Industry Minister Sebastien Martin on Sunday called on the European Union to protect its internal market more swiftly, more coherently, and more effectively, particularly in the face of the influx of foreign products, especially from China.

According to Qatar News Agency, Martin said that EU institutions need to move from merely managing the internal market to genuinely protecting it, adding that this shift requires strengthening the capabilities dedicated to analyzing unfair competition practices and handling anti-dumping cases.

He added that this approach should include reinforcing the value of the European industrial and productive base and a clearer affirmation of the principle of European preference, enabling Europe to better leverage its expertise, secure value chains, and support industrial job opportunities across the continent.

Martin also indicated that the EU must know how to protect certain strategic sectors without sliding into blanket protectionism.

He stressed that Europe must be able to attack and compete on the international stage, but this does not necessarily mean its doors should be flung open.
