Riyadh: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has condemned the Houthi group's attempt to target Makkah Al Mukarramah with a drone. This act is seen as a dangerous escalation and a violation of the sanctity of the holiest site in Islam, according to GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi.
According to Qatar News Agency, Albudaiwi stated that this aggression highlights an extremist approach with no regard for the sanctity of holy sites or the safety of civilians. He called for a firm international response to end these violations and hold those responsible accountable.
Albudaiwi emphasized that any threat to Makkah Al Mukarramah is not just an attack on Saudi Arabia but a provocation to Muslims worldwide. He affirmed that targeting holy sites represents a level of escalation that cannot be tolerated. The GCC states stand united with Saudi Arabia, considering the security of the Kingdom and its holy sites as integral to the security of the GCC.
The Secretary General reiterated the Council's full support for all measures taken by Saudi Arabia to protect its sovereignty and stability. This includes safeguarding its territory, holy sites, citizens, and residents, and deterring any attempts to undermine its security.
