Boutilimit: Operated by Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), with funding from, and under the supervision of, Education Above All (EAA) Foundation, the Hamad bin Khalifa Hospital in Boutilimit, Mauritania, provided a total of 115,255 diverse medical services over one year, including general/specialized consultations, surgeries, childbirths, laboratory tests, radiology, and pharmaceutical prescriptions.
According to Qatar News Agency, the hospital’s annual report on the medical activities/services implemented in 2024 highlighted the utilization of available resources and infrastructure, supported by a workforce of 91 doctors, nurses, assistants, social workers, and administrative staff. The hospital also recruited three new specialists, conducted maintenance works and upgrades, and installed outdoor solar lighting systems.
The hospital is organized into four medical divisions: outpatient, inpatient, technical, and emergency, with eleven outpatient clinics offering services in GP, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, dermatology, general surgery, orthopedics, dental medicine, endocrinology, pediatrics, ophthalmology, and ENT. During 2024, the emergency department with nine beds attended to 25,329 patients, including multiple emergencies, Ob-Gyn emergencies, and road traffic injuries, while minimizing referrals to major hospitals in Nouakchott to 94.
The outpatient department, with six rooms, provided GP services on weekdays and other specialties with a minimum of three clinics per week. It served 63,764 patients over the year, including children, male adults, and female adults, across various medical fields.
The hospital, with a capacity of 54 beds in four recovery departments, recorded 4,851 inpatients with a total of 10,271 stay days and a bed occupancy rate of 53%. The Ob-Gyn department facilitated 1,499 births, including 304 C-sections.
In the biotechnology department, 837 surgeries were performed, and 37,143 lab tests and 6,794 medical images were conducted. The hospital furthered professional capacity-building by training 60 new trainees and participating in nine multidisciplinary conferences and training courses.
Established in 2007, the Hamad bin Khalifa Hospital is supervised and funded by EAA Foundation, which aims to transform lives by providing educational opportunities to marginalized children and youths, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
