Japan’s Nikkei Reaches Near Three-Week High Amid Wall Street Gains


Doha: Japan’s Nikkei share average rose more than 1% to hit a nearly three-week high on Tuesday, tracking Wall Street’s overnight gains, with trading firms leading the gains.



According to Qatar News Agency, the Nikkei index crossed the 38,000 level for the first time since February 27, reaching 38,004.2 before ending at 37,845.42, marking an increase of 1.20%. The broader Topix index also experienced a rise, climbing 1.29% to close at 2,783.56.



Among the trading firms, Mitsui and Co showed a significant jump of 3.08%, while Mitsubishi Corp saw an increase of 3.61%. However, defense-related shares, which had previously seen a rally due to expectations for increased defense spending, experienced a decline. IHI fell by 4.65%, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries decreased by 2.48%.
