Japan’s Nikkei Surpasses 65,000 Mark for the First Time

Tokyo: Tokyo stocks ended higher on Monday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index closing above the 65,000 mark for the first time.

According to Qatar News Agency, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 2.87% higher from Friday to 65,158.19 after touching an intraday record of 65,408.87. Its 8.95% advance over the past three sessions was the steepest three-day gain in more than six years.

The broader Topix index, meanwhile, climbed 1.29%, at a record closing high of 3,942.57. There were 141 advancers on the Nikkei index against 83 decliners. Shares related to the AI sector were among the steepest gainers.

Shares of Fujikura, a cables and optical fibers manufacturer, and Kioxia, a chip manufacturer, rose by more than 14 percent. In contrast, Archion shares fell 8.4 percent, recording the biggest loss, followed by Pan Pacific International, which fell 4.9 percent, and Aeon, which fell 4.8 percent.
