Doha: Jordan’s Industry and Trade Minister Yarub Qudah stated that the newly implemented US tariff system is a global trade measure affecting imports from various countries, rather than being specifically directed at Jordan.
According to Qatar News Agency, Qudah explained that the tariff changes would influence Jordanian exports to the US market. In response to this policy shift by Washington, the Jordanian government is actively working on strategies to enhance the competitiveness of sectors impacted by the new tariffs.
Qudah highlighted the importance of maintaining Jordan’s strategic economic relationship with the United States. “We are committed to overcoming these challenges while safeguarding our crucial partnership with the US,” he stated. He also mentioned the ongoing dialogues with American authorities aimed at achieving positive outcomes.
The minister underscored the significance of the 25-year Free Trade Agreement between Jordan and the United States, which has considerably boosted Jordanian exports to the American market and facilitated US exports to Jordan. “This agreement has played a vital role in enhancing our export capabilities,” Qudah noted, expressing Jordan’s intent to increase exports and further develop bilateral trade in the future.
