Beirut: Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun reiterated his demand for the Israeli entity to withdraw from all Lebanese territories, stressing that only then can the Lebanese military fully deploy its troops along the southern border.
According to Qatar News Agency, during his meeting with a delegation from the United States Congress, chaired by Senator Angus King, Aoun stressed that Lebanon is committed to enforcing UN Security Council Resolution 1701. He pointed out that the Lebanese military deployed to the south of the Litani River and is fully undertaking its role to implement what was agreed upon last November.
The Israeli entity is still continuing its breaches against Lebanon and occupies the Five Hills. The Lebanese prisoners have yet to be released, despite repeated follow-ups undertaken by Lebanon, particularly with the United States and France, the co-sponsors of the deal that was extended through February 18, 2025, while the Israeli entity continues to renege on its obligations, Aoun pointed out.
For his part, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam called for ramping up US pressure on the Israeli entity to pull out from the occupied Lebanese territories and cease its breaches of Lebanon's sovereignty. He stressed the importance of supporting the Lebanese military to enhance its authority over the borders and throughout the country.
