Sabang city: An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale struck on Sunday in northwestern Indonesia. The earthquake's epicenter was located 205 kilometers northwest of Sabang City, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Indonesia Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) stated that there is no risk of a tsunami as a result of the earthquake. The region is accustomed to seismic activity due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where tectonic plates frequently interact, leading to both volcanic and seismic events.
Indonesia has a history of significant earthquakes, including a devastating 9.1 magnitude earthquake in Aceh province in 2004, which triggered a tsunami and resulted in the loss of over 170,000 lives.
