Doha: Qatar Charity and the Mauritanian Ministry of Health have signed a memorandum of understanding to bolster cooperation in the health sector, addressing the basic needs of the population in line with Mauritania's health strategies and policies.
According to Qatar News Agency, the memorandum was signed by Omar Abdulaziz Mohammed, Director of Qatar Charity's office in Mauritania, and Alia Yahya Meknous, Secretary-General of the Mauritanian Ministry of Health. The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration in key health areas such as training, professional development, capacity building, and the construction and equipping of health facilities. It includes the organization of medical campaigns and convoys, alongside support for financing mechanisms, with the Ministry of Health responsible for the operation and maintenance of the health facilities.
The Director of Qatar Charity's office in Mauritania emphasized that these new projects represent a significant advancement in targeting various groups and medical specialties, aligning with the Mauritanian government's plans and strategies. The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health expressed the Ministry's readiness to cooperate and provide necessary facilities, underscoring the importance of the health initiatives being launched by Qatar Charity.
In a related development, Qatar Charity has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Cardiology Center to establish a collaborative framework in healthcare and cardiology. This agreement seeks to identify mutually beneficial opportunities, support health services, and implement specialized treatment programs, including cardiac catheterization and heart defect correction. It also aims to build local healthcare personnel capacity and organize medical campaigns.
Qatar Charity is actively implementing several health initiatives in Mauritania, including the establishment of a new health center, open-heart surgery campaigns for children, cochlear implants for those with hearing loss, cataract treatments, and life-saving medicine distribution. Additionally, a malnutrition-prevention program is being conducted across several districts to enhance the health and nutritional status of vulnerable groups.
