Medical Sources Warn of Dangerous Increase in Acute Flaccid Paralysis, Guillain-Barre Syndrome Cases in Gaza

Doha: Medical sources in the Gaza Strip have warned of a dangerous increase in cases of acute flaccid paralysis and Guillain-Barre syndrome among children, as a result of atypical infections and worsening acute malnutrition.

According to Qatar News Agency, the same sources explained that three deaths from Guillain-Barre syndrome have been recorded, noting that medical tests revealed the presence of intestinal viruses other than polio, confirming the existence of a fertile environment for the uncontrolled spread of infectious diseases.

In a related context, they reported that two deaths were recorded, involving children under the age of 15, after attempts to save them failed due to the lack of necessary treatment because of the blockade.

The same medical sources warned that "these are not just deaths... but rather a warning of a real potential infectious disaster."

The Gaza Strip is witnessing an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression since October 7, 2023. Conditions have worsened with the occupation's closure of all crossings and the prevention of the entry of humanitarian aid, leading to a serious deterioration in living conditions, culminating in famine and widespread disease.
