Minister of Endowments Unveils New Zakat Calculation Service for Businesses

Doha: HE Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs Ghanem bin Shaheen Al Ghanim inaugurated the Company Zakat Calculation Service, launched by the Ministry's Department of Zakat Affairs on its official website and app.

According to Qatar News Agency, this initiative demonstrates the Ministry's commitment to developing digital services and advancing the electronic transformation ecosystem. It aims to address the business sector's needs and simplify the payment of zakat in accordance with Sharia and accounting principles.

A launch ceremony took place, attended by HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al-Thani, along with Sharia scholars, technical experts, and administrative staff from the Department of Zakat Affairs who contributed to the service.

The service represents a collaborative effort involving Sharia, technical, and administrative expertise to ensure effective implementation, showcasing a high level of institutional coordination.

The Company Zakat Calculation Service is designed as a reliable tool for accountants and financial managers in companies and institutions to calculate corporate zakat efficiently, in compliance with Sharia rulings and professional standards.

Director of the Department of Zakat Affairs Malallah Al Jaber stated that the service is part of the department's ongoing commitment to enhance digital services and provide practical tools for the corporate sector. It facilitates corporate zakat calculation through a methodology that integrates Sharia rulings with accounting standards.

Al Jaber emphasized the user-friendly and accurate nature of the service, which aids accountants and financial managers in fulfilling this religious obligation confidently.

He highlighted that the mechanism adopts Sharia conditions and controls for zakat, focusing on wealth, full ownership, and growth as criteria for identifying financial assets within the zakat base of companies.

This approach results in standardized, accurate, and transparent calculations, making zakat assessment easier for companies, either in general or on a per-share basis. It also contributes to unifying Sharia and accounting methodologies and facilitates review and auditing, thus enhancing service reliability.

The Director noted that companies can request an officially approved letter from the department specifying the zakat amount due, supporting internal regulatory and accounting procedures and facilitating official adoption of the payable amount.

He mentioned that this feature is among many electronic services provided via the department's website and app, affirming their commitment to developing digital services to meet the aspirations of zakat payers and maximize the impact of zakat on social solidarity and sustainable development.

Al Jaber reiterated the department's focus on strengthening partnerships with the business sector and offering a flexible service environment for zakat payment, aligning with the Ministry's mission of serving society and reinforcing Islamic values.
